Islanders still have time to share their views on how transport should develop across the Isle of Wight over the next 15 years.
The public consultation on the draft Island Transport Plan (ITP) is open until 24 November, giving residents a chance to help shape the Island’s transport priorities through to 2040.
So far, hundreds of Islanders have already taken part, with drop-in sessions held in Newport, East Cowes, Freshwater, Ryde and Cowes.
Two more in-person events are planned — alongside an online forum — to give even more people the chance to get involved.
Upcoming Events
Residents can speak directly with council officers and ask questions about the plan at the following sessions:
Tuesday 4 November – Salisbury Gardens, Ventnor – 11:00am to 2:00pm
Thursday 6 November – Sandown Methodist Church – 11:30am to 2:30pm
Monday 3 November – Online via Microsoft Teams – 5:00pm to 6:30pm
What the Plan Covers
The draft ITP sets out a long-term vision for a sustainable and accessible transport network.
It takes into account:
Changing Island demographics
Cross-Solent travel
Access to healthcare and education
Climate change and adaptation
Evolving travel habits
Links to local and regional policies
The current PFI contract and how it affects future projects
Key objectives include supporting local economic growth, improving air quality, enhancing travel efficiency, and making transport more inclusive and affordable.
Proposals and Improvements
Among the proposals are:
Upgrades to rural bus shelters
Simplified ticketing across different transport modes
Introduction of real-time travel information
Improvements at ferry terminals
Expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure
What Happens Next
Once the consultation closes, feedback will be reviewed and used to shape the final version of the Island Transport Plan, which is expected to be published in early 2026 before being submitted to the Department for Transport for approval.
