A fundraising coastal walk around the Isle of Wight is set to return this September after raising more than £13,000 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight last year.

In September 2025, Fred White led dozens of walkers on a 70-mile challenge around the Island coastline in memory of his friend, Roy Denham.

The four-day walk began and ended at The Painters Arms and raised £13,062.20 for the charity.

Several walkers completed sections of the route, while Pete Green, Matt Venables, Gerry Shaw and Mark Casson accompanied Fred for the entire challenge. The group now plans to repeat the walk in 2026.

Funds raised will support Mountbatten’s round-the-clock end-of-life care services, the majority of which are delivered in patients’ homes across the Island. The charity also provides inpatient care and services through the John Cheverton Centre in Newport.

Roy’s wife Jenny, along with their children Amy and Tom, are supporting this year’s fundraiser.

Fred White said last year’s challenge had an “off the scale” atmosphere in Roy’s honour and described the experience as something the group “had to repeat”.
