The Red Lion Inn, Freshwater is celebrating after being named in the UK’s 100 Best Pubs 2025 list by The Good Food Guide.
The popular pub was ranked in 83rd place in the inaugural edition guide, which was released to the public yesterday (Tuesday).
In a message shared via its social media, The Red Lion said:
“To be in the top 100 pubs across the UK is phenomenal - thank you for all the votes and thank you to the judges.
"A massive well done to The Red Lion team – (we are) so proud of this achievement!”
A pub steeped in character
The Red Lion is a traditional country pub set in a quiet corner of Freshwater, with a history stretching back to the 11th century.
Today it’s run under the stewardship of Mark, Danielle, and their team, who aim to blend tradition with excellent cooking using locally sourced ingredients.
The pub also grows herbs and produce in its own garden to support the kitchen.
It is also listed on CAMRA and WhatPub as a pub of note, with strong food and ale credentials.
What is The Good Food Guide?
The Good Food Guide is a long-established and influential British publication that highlights exceptional dining venues — restaurants, cafés, and pubs — based on reader feedback and anonymous expert inspections.
In October 2025, the Guide launched its inaugural 100 Best Pubs campaign, shining a spotlight on pubs that combine warm hospitality, great food and drink, and a strong sense of place.
The list includes a variety of pubs, from cosy locals to coastal gems, judged on quality of cooking, character, ambiance and service.
For The Red Lion, securing a spot in the top 100 is a significant recognition — not just for the food, but for the whole pub experience.
