Volunteer drivers for Daisy Ring Bus C.I.C. can now benefit from free parking in Cowes, thanks to the support of Northwood House Charitable Trust Co Ltd.
The Trust, which already offers a free parking scheme for NHS patients travelling to the mainland for treatment or appointments, has extended the initiative to include Daisy Ring Bus volunteers.
Drivers will be able to park free of charge at Park Road Car Park in Cowes, helping to make their journeys to Southampton easier as they transport patients between the ferry terminal and hospital appointments.
The scheme is administered by Cowes Town Council on behalf of the Trust and aims to reduce travel barriers for volunteers while ensuring patients receive timely and reliable support.
The free parking initiative was introduced as a trial in October, following the launch of the Daisy Ring Bus service in Southampton.
Due to its success, the Trust has agreed to extend the scheme for a further year, strengthening community support for the service.
Daisy Ring Bus Volunteer Coordinator Rex Goldsmith said the move would make a real difference to volunteers.
“Our volunteer drivers play a vital role in helping people access their off-Island hospital appointments, and we are very grateful to Northwood House Charitable Trust for supporting our drivers with free parking close to the Red Jet,” he said.
Darren Cool, Chief Operating Officer at Northwood House Charitable Trust Co Ltd, said:
“The Trust is pleased to be able to support both patients and Daisy Ring Bus volunteer drivers with free parking, making the process of getting to the mainland an easier one.”
Cowes Mayor Councillor Stuart Ellis added:
“This is a great example of the community working together to make a real difference in helping people access vital NHS services. Well done to everyone involved.”
