Four people have escaped serious injury following this morning’s bus crash in Brading, with recovery of the overturned vehicle now well underway.

The bright green double decker, operated by Southern Vectis, was travelling towards Yarbridge from Yaverland when it left the carriageway and overturned onto its side on Marshcombe Shute at around 7.45am.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service sent four crews from Ryde, Sandown and Newport.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service sent two ambulance crews, alongside a critical care paramedic, rapid response paramedic, operational commander and incident commander.

Police also attended and closed the road.

In a social media update, Isle of Wight Police said officers had been dealing with a single vehicle that left the road near Yarbridge and confirmed there were no serious injuries.

Police added that they would be assisting with recovery of the vehicle from midday, warning that the size of the bus means the closure could last several hours.

Brading Down Road is expected to effectively become a no through route during this period due to the combination of roadworks, the recovery operation and flooding on Morton Common Road.

Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes this afternoon.

All four individuals involved in the crash are understood to have avoided serious injury.

Recovery specialists Stag Lane Motors are carrying out the complex operation to right and remove the vehicle.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area while work continues.
