A former Isle of Wight daily commuter has released a personal account of life after a serious cycling accident left him facing long-term neurological symptoms.
Alan Green’s new book, You’ve Got a Nerve, reflects on the years following what had been a routine commute that suddenly became life-changing.
What started as physical recovery developed into a complex journey involving fluctuating symptoms, shifts in energy and personality, and the impact on family and working life.
Alan had cycled almost daily for 18 years from Porchfield to Ryde while working at Liz Earle, clocking up around 118,000 miles before the collision brought his routine to an abrupt end.
He said:
“I wrote the book to document what the experience was really like, and to offer some solidarity to anyone living with long-term injury or illness.
"I found the process of writing the book initially very hard, as my body was highly traumatised, but gradually, as I improved, it became therapeutic.”
You’ve Got a Nerve is available in paperback from Shalfleet Village Stores and in paperback and Kindle via Amazon.
