Former Education Cabinet Member Loses Town Council Seat

A former education cabinet member who led contentious plans to close six Isle of Wight primary schools, including one in Brading, has lost his seat on the town’s council.
Cllr Jonathan Bacon garnered the fewest votes in the Brading Town Council (BTC) election (81) – a contest that saw Nick Binfield, a prominent campaigner against the closure of Brading Primary School, elected for the first time with 168 votes.
The local authority has responsibility for facilities and services including allotments, the Beech Grove Play Area, Bully’s Hill Quarry and grant awards, according to its website.
