A former fish and chip shop in Cowes could be converted into a one-bedroom apartment under new plans submitted to the Isle of Wight Council.

Andrew Pritchard has applied for a change of use for 36 Victoria Road, previously home to Chip Ahoy, which closed in September 2022.

Planning documents state the building’s external appearance would remain unchanged, with work focused on internal alterations only.

The proposal would see the ground floor converted into a living and kitchen area, with a bedroom and bathroom created on the lower ground floor.

Existing shop fittings would be removed and new partition walls installed as part of the redesign.

The application says the property is intended to be leased to a local housing association.

Public consultation on the plans runs until January 23, with a decision expected by January 30.
