A major emergency response is underway in Wootton this morning (Friday), with ambulance crews, firefighters and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance all called to an incident on Palmers Road.

The first emergency calls were received at around 7am, prompting the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service to send two ambulances and a paramedic response vehicle.

Firefighters from Ryde Fire Station have also been deployed, with two fire appliances attending, including the aerial ladder platform (ALP), to assist at the scene.

The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was then tasked from its base at Southampton Airport, touching down in a nearby field off Palmers Road at around 7.45am.

As emergency services continue their work, Palmers Road has been closed where it meets Church Road.

There is currently no indication of when the route will reopen.

The nature of the medical emergency has not been confirmed.
