Five teenagers have been arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in failed to stop for Police and later crashed in Sandown during the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday).

Officers were on patrol shortly before 1.30am when they observed a car being driven erratically along The Fairway in Sandown.

When attempts were made to bring the vehicle to a stop, the driver did not comply and instead made off in the direction of Lake.

The pursuit was brought to a swift conclusion when officers located the vehicle at the bottom of Lake Hill.

The car had collided with a wall and a parked vehicle outside a residential property.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that five teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, drink driving, aggravated vehicle taking and going equipped for theft.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, going equipped for theft, aggravated vehicle taking and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Two 16-year-old boys and a 15-year-old boy have also been arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and aggravated vehicle taking.

All five remain in custody at this time while enquiries continue.
