Five More Beach Huts To Be Installed On Picturesque Seafront

Five more beach huts will be installed on a picturesque Isle of Wight seafront.

Canice Holdings has been given planning permission for further ‘smart beach huts’ on land to the south of Pilots Point, Totland Bay.

Its agent, Plan Research, previously said the huts would substantially improve the area’s environment, with the site’s existing hard standing run down and unsightly.

In July, council officers approved a previous beach huts proposal from Canice Holdings on land next to Pilots Point.

They said the development would be an ‘attractive addition’ to the site and complement the wider beach scene.

Plan Research’s Design and Access Statement said:

“The additional huts, if approved, would enable more visitors to enjoy the National Landscape and the coastline.

“The design of the proposed new structures is that of typical seaside beach huts; the materials proposed are wood, the roof design would be simple, and the buildings would be single storey.

“There would be no mains lighting to cause light pollution or kitchen equipment to cause smell nuisance, as the huts would not have a water, gas or electricity supply.”

The Isle of Wight Council’s decision report on proposal 25/01389/FUL said the huts would have a ‘traditional appearance’ and would not look out of place.

Four conditions were attached to the consent for the purposes of legal and planning policy compliance and to protect the amenities of neighbours and the Isle of Wight National Landscape.
