The first families have begun moving into the new Three Oaks housing development in Newport, a scheme made up entirely of affordable homes for Island residents.

The project, being built by Captiva Homes with homes allocated by Sovereign Network Group (SNG) in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council, will eventually provide 145 properties for affordable rent and shared ownership.

Three Oaks includes one- to four-bedroom homes, with construction taking place in phases.

Earlier phases of shared ownership houses were reported to have been oversubscribed, with more two- and three-bedroom homes due to be released soon.

Additional properties, including two-bedroom flats, are expected in 2026.

Among the first to move in earlier this month were two Island families purchasing their first homes through shared ownership.

They have now settled into newly completed three-bedroom houses at the site.

According to planning documents, Three Oaks has been designed to meet updated sustainability standards set by SNG. Homes include larger windows for natural light, energy-efficient features, two parking spaces per property and electric vehicle charging points.

When finished, the development will include a new children’s play area and improved access links. It is located close to Hunnyhill Primary School, Medina College, local nurseries and Newport town centre, with bus routes connecting to Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor.

Three Oaks forms part of what has been described as one of the largest affordable housing projects delivered on the Island in recent decades.
