Fire Crews Tackle Yarmouth Bonfire Blaze

Firefighters from Freshwater and Newport were called to Yarmouth yesterday morning (Thursday) after a bonfire spread to nearby undergrowth.

Crews were alerted shortly before 10am and arrived at Gas Works Lane to find smoke and flames covering an area of around 35m by 35m.

The fire was brought under control using hose reels and a water carrier, with crews remaining on scene until around midday.

Onsite staff were advised to keep monitoring the area throughout the day to ensure the blaze did not reignite.
