Residents and motorists are being reminded that highway improvement works on Binstead Road will resume next month.

Contractor Island Roads will begin the next phase of works on 13 April, with the project expected to last two weeks.

The scheme will improve the stretch of road between Stonepitts Close and Gwydyr Close, following earlier works this year on another section between Ringwood Road and Stonepitts Close.

The timing of the work has been planned to avoid clashing with current works by Southern Water at Elenors Grove, which would have significantly affected diversion routes.

Island Roads has also coordinated with Southern Gas Networks so that work by both organisations can be carried out during the same closure period.

Because the project involves deeper excavations to address the underlying causes of deterioration in the road surface, a 24-hour road closure will be in place for the duration of the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and access to properties will be allowed where it is safe to do so.

Buses will be diverted through the Binstead Estate, but motorists are being asked to follow the official diversion via Station Road, Briddlesford Road, Mersley Road, Mersley Down Road, Brading Down Road, New Road, Brading High Street, Rowborough Lane, Beaper Shute, Brading Road and Marlborough Road.

An Island Roads spokesperson said the work would deliver similar improvements to those already completed and strengthen the road’s foundations, helping to reduce the need for future repairs on the busy route.

They added that after this project is completed, planned maintenance work on the Island’s main roads will be scaled back for the summer tourism season.

Island Roads says it has discussed the scheme in advance with affected organisations including Ryde Golf Club, St Vincent’s care home, and Ryde House assisted living.
