The countdown is on for this year’s Vectis Radio Community Awards, with nominations closing at midnight on Friday 30 January.

The awards ceremony will take place on Friday 27 March at Caffe Isola in Newport and aims to honour, celebrate and promote the outstanding work carried out by community groups, charities and individuals across the Isle of Wight.

The awards are open to any Isle of Wight–based charity, individual or non-profit community organisation.

Categories have been reviewed and refreshed for this year and include:

  • Community Project of the Year

  • Village Hero Award

  • Sports Coach/Leader of the Year

  • Animal Impact Award

  • Young Person of the Year (Under 18)

  • Fundraising Award

  • Volunteer of the Year

  • Island School/Club Achievement

  • Good Neighbour of the Year

  • Overall Champion Award (decided by public vote)

Anyone can nominate an individual or organisation, and organisations are also welcome to put themselves forward.

Event organiser Maggie Currie said she has been pleased with the response so far but urged people not to miss the deadline, saying:

“I’m happy to say that once again we have received a good number of entries for this year’s awards, but I would hate to think that some organisations might miss an opportunity to win an accolade because they were too late to enter.
“Please get your entries in now — our panel of independent judges are eagerly awaiting your submissions.
“We are incredibly grateful to Caffe Isola for sponsoring this event.”

Entry forms can be completed online via the Vectis Radio website at vectisradio.com/awards.
