Passengers travelling between the Isle of Wight and the mainland are being warned of cancellations on the Portsmouth–Fishbourne route tomorrow (Thursday) due to extreme wind conditions on the Solent.

Ferry operator Wightlink says a number of sailings will be affected because the vessel St Clare is currently operating on three out of four engines following an issue with one of its propellers.

The restriction means the ferry must operate within strict limits and cannot sail in very strong winds, with tomorrow’s forecast conditions considered too severe for safe operation.

Repairs are expected to take place in the coming weeks at a dry dock facility, which is currently being arranged.

Affected customers are being contacted directly and moved onto alternative sailings where possible.

Meanwhile, the ferry Victoria of Wight has returned from refit but cannot yet re-enter service until it completes final inspections by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and receives clearance to sail.

To help maintain capacity across the Solent, Wightlink says it will run additional sailings on the Lymington–Yarmouth route.

Passengers are being advised to check their bookings and travel updates, with further information to be shared once all affected customers have been contacted.
