A “fantastic” hand-painted mural could be installed on the front of an Isle of Wight village’s antique shop.

Luke Stagg has put forward a proposal to paint Odds & Sods on Freshwater’s Afton Road with a ‘seaside and vintage theme’.

Opened in December last year, the business’s stock includes ‘second-hand furniture, vintage treasures and retro finds’.

Mr Stagg’s application form said:

“With the permission of our landlord, we propose to install a hand-painted mural on the front elevation of our business, Odds & Sods, located in Freshwater.
“The mural will depict a seaside and vintage theme, reflecting the nature of the business (antiques, retro and house clearance) and the coastal setting of the Isle of Wight.
“The artwork will include visual elements such as antique furniture, vintage objects, and local maritime imagery (e.g. a lighthouse or sailing boat).
“It will be painted using weather-resistant masonry paints directly onto the existing rendered wall.”

Afton Road resident Danny Arthur supports the bid:

“I think the proposed mural is a fantastic idea, supporting the coastal image of the town, brightening and updating an otherwise fairly drab and dated building.
“I think support must be shown for anyone trying to create a new business and trying to support and fit in the local environment.”

The council’s public consultation on application 25/01024/ADV ends on August 22 and a decision is due on September 15.
