Islanders are being urged to take precautions as an exceptional spell of hot and humid weather is set to bring potentially dangerous conditions to the Isle of Wight.
Forecasters say temperatures could exceed 37°C across parts of southern England over the next few days, with some areas potentially reaching between 38°C and 40°C.
High humidity and very warm nights are expected to add to the discomfort and increase health risks.
Authorities warn that the heat could affect everyone, not just those traditionally considered vulnerable, with a higher likelihood of heat-related illness and serious health impacts.
The extreme conditions could also place pressure on essential services, with an increased risk of power outages and disruption to water, electricity, gas and mobile phone networks.
With many people expected to head to the Island's beaches and coastline, water safety experts are reminding visitors to take extra care.
Swimmers are advised to enter the water gradually to avoid cold-water shock, choose lifeguarded beaches where possible and remember to float on their back if they get into difficulty.
People are being encouraged to avoid strenuous exercise between 11:00 and 15:00, drink plenty of water, stay in the shade and wear sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.
Travellers are also being warned to expect possible delays on roads and public transport.
Anyone making journeys should check conditions before setting off and carry water with them.
Residents are being asked to check on elderly neighbours, those with underlying health conditions and anyone living alone to ensure they are staying cool and hydrated.
Officials say significant disruption to daily routines is likely and are urging people to adapt their plans where possible during what could be one of the most intense periods of heat experienced in the UK.
