The High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight is urging residents to start conversations about end-of-life planning as part of Dying Matters Week.

Nigel Hartley MBE is promoting his “My Life. My Death. My Plan.” campaign, encouraging Islanders to think about issues such as making a will, discussing wishes with loved ones and managing their digital legacy.

The initiative, supported by Mountbatten Isle of Wight and partner organisations, aims to normalise discussions around death and bereavement.

Residents are being asked to sign up for updates and guidance, as well as attend events designed to help them plan ahead.

Nigel said:

“Thank you for signing up to the High Sheriff’s Campaign with Mountbatten My Life. My Death. My Plan. This campaign provides an important opportunity for us to work together across our Island community, to positively impact not only ourselves and families, but to support those services who will support us at the end of our lives, by planning well in advance.”

He added that signing up is the first step before sharing tools to support personal planning.

Becky McGregor, CEO of Mountbatten, said:

“Every day, we see first-hand how proper planning helps makes one of the most challenging times of our lives easier to cope with.”

Support has also come from Carers Isle of Wight and Age UK Isle of Wight. A public event for potential campaign champions will take place later this month.
