The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary in Wroxall is marking Valentine’s Day by inviting supporters to adopt one of four animals still waiting to find a special place in someone’s heart.

The sanctuary says its “Lonely Hearts” are among the least-adopted residents, with funds from adoptions helping to provide lifelong care for more than 100 donkeys, ponies, a mule and a horse.

Adopters receive regular updates, photos and stories to stay connected with their chosen animal throughout the year.

This year’s Valentine’s Lonely Hearts include Sensitive Lenny, a gentle donkey who loves a cuddle; Playful Major, a sociable character who enjoys having fun; Wispa, who adores attention and calm companionship; and long-legged Gabby, described as the elegant diva of the sanctuary.

The sanctuary is open seven days a week over winter, and visitors are welcome to meet the animals before choosing to adopt.

Adoption co-ordinator Lucy Smith said it is a chance to give a meaningful Valentine’s gift while supporting a much-loved Island charity.

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary is open all year round and cares for more than 120 donkeys and other equines.

During February half term, families can also enjoy a love heart trail and Valentine-themed activities, with special afternoon teas available on selected dates by advance booking.
