Newport’s young people are set to benefit from a new community centre, thanks to the efforts of local churches and youth workers.

The Hope Centre, at Newport Minster’s Parish Centre in Town Lane, will open on Tuesday 3 November, becoming the new home of Revive Newport’s Youth Café.

Revive has outgrown its existing base at Castlehold Baptist Church and will become the lead occupier at the new centre, which will also host other organisations, including Aspire’s Creative Hub and a new inclusive orchestra project.

Supported by local churches, individuals and grant funding, Revive also carries out detached youth work in areas affected by anti-social behaviour.

Director Pete Luther said the larger premises would allow the organisation to welcome more young people and run additional sessions.

He said the aim was to provide somewhere young people could feel safe, accepted and listened to, building on 15 years of work in Newport.

The Reverend Chris Bradish, Team Rector for Newport, Carisbrooke and Gatcombe, said the Minster and wider parish wanted to help young people across the town and Island thrive.

He welcomed the growing partnership with Revive and other organisations.

The centre aims to support young people with their education, mental wellbeing and friendships, while helping them make positive choices, find a healthy direction and reach their full potential.
