Dog owners are being urged to stay alert after several dogs needed veterinary treatment following suspected poisoning in Parkhurst Forest earlier this week.
The incidents happened on Tuesday evening when the dogs became unwell after consuming a substance thought to have been left in the forest. It is unclear when the material was originally placed.
Owners returned to the area on Wednesday to remove any remaining suspected poison and have put up warning signs to alert other visitors.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has been informed about the situation.
Dog walkers are being advised to keep pets under close supervision and remain cautious while in the forest.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred in Parkhurst Forest.
In February 2023, one dog died and another suffered a seizure after ingesting poison, while in November 2020, police investigated the presence of rat poison around the Marks Corner area, which caused serious harm to animals.
