A new dog grooming business offering services such as bathing, drying and clipping could soon open in a seaside town on the Isle of Wight.

Nicola Butler, of Coastal Canine Spa Co., has applied to Isle of Wight Council for permission to establish a small grooming studio within a timber garden cabin at 12 Magdalen Crescent in Cowes.

If approved, the premises would operate on an appointment-only basis, with just one dog on site at a time and a maximum of three to four dogs groomed each day.

The proposed opening hours are 09:00 until 17:30 from Monday to Friday, and 09:00 until 13:00 on Saturdays.

A submitted Planning Statement says the appointment system would help prevent disruption in the residential area.

It states:

“The appointment-only model ensures no overlapping visits and no increase in on-street parking demand, as clients would be able to make use of the property’s off-street parking spaces.
“The proposed development is modest, well-designed, and fully compatible with the residential character of the area.
“It supports local economic activity, protects residential amenity, and aligns with both adopted and emerging Isle of Wight planning policies.”

County Hall’s public consultation on the application (26/00248/FUL) is open until 7th April, with a decision expected on 24th April.
