A dog has died following a flat fire in Lake that saw firefighters from across the Isle of Wight sent to the scene.
Crews from Newport, Ryde, Shanklin and Ventnor were called to Sandown Road, between Flitcroft Gardens and Cemetery Road, after reports that a first-floor flat was well alight.
The fire broke out in the top floor of the building, leading to the precautionary evacuation of nearby residents.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control.
Positive pressure ventilation was then used to clear smoke from the property.
No injuries to people have been reported. However, it has been confirmed that a dog sadly died as a result of the fire.
Sandown Road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident, with traffic diverted via Green Lane and Whitecross Lane.
The situation has now been brought under control.
