Cowes-based Diverse Marine has secured a contract to build four crew transfer vessels for Farra Marine, with the agreement announced on the opening day of Seawork 2026.

The order includes the recently delivered Farra Lir and Farra Tuireann, alongside two further vessels, Farra Eriu and Farra Macha, which are due to be completed later this year.

The deal strengthens Diverse Marine's position in the offshore wind sector and represents a significant boost for shipbuilding on the Isle of Wight.

Farra Lir, a 27.2-metre vessel designed by Chartwell Marine, has recently been handed over and will begin work on a contract operating from the UK's east coast. The vessel has been designed to provide efficient passenger transfers and improved comfort for crew working offshore.

The remaining vessels will also be based on Chartwell Marine's Brevity range, incorporating fuel-efficient technology aimed at reducing operating costs.

Diverse Marine Director Ben Colman said the agreement marked an important milestone for the company and highlighted the expertise of its workforce in Cowes.

He said the order was a major success for both the business and UK shipbuilding, adding that the company was proud to welcome a new client while continuing to support existing customers.

Farra Marine CEO Martin Rice said the contract formed part of the firm's long-term growth plans and praised the quality of the vessel already delivered.

The vessels are expected to support offshore wind operations as demand for renewable energy infrastructure continues to grow across UK waters.
