Cowes RNLI is looking for new volunteers to join its crew and help save lives at sea.
The station’s 52 volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service in the busy Solent.
New recruits start as shore crew, supporting lifeboat launches and learning skills such as ropework, VHF radio use, local knowledge and first aid.
Training and equipment are fully provided, and no previous maritime experience is required.
Once qualified, volunteers can progress to boat crew.
Among the newest recruits is A-Level student Rachel Lambert, who recently passed her shore crew assessment.
She said:
“The crew here isn’t just a team, we’re a family… every training session is a chance to learn something new that could one day help save a life.”
Lifeboat Operations Manager Mark Southwell added:
“Being lifeboat crew is a commitment to train and maintain your skills. It’s not for everyone – but it’s hugely rewarding.”
Applicants must be over 18 and live or work within 15 minutes of Cowes RNLI Station.
Training begins this autumn.
