A Cowes pharmacy has become the first in the UK to offer two prescription collection points, after the town’s mayor officially opened the new facility this month.

Edward Lloyd, manager of the Day Lewis branch on Cowes High Street, said the additional collection point aims to reduce waiting times for residents, following growing demand at the existing machine.

Around 2,500 patients already use the first collection point, which has been praised for ending long queues outside the store.

The new system is simple to use: patients can sign up via a QR code at either collection point or through the Day Lewis website.

Most prescriptions can be collected this way, with exceptions for controlled drugs, refrigerated items, or large bulky prescriptions.

Cowes Mayor Stuart Ellis welcomed the expansion, saying it will “relieve some of the stress inside the store” and allow staff more time for other services, such as blood pressure checks and patient consultations.

He added that the branch’s new status as the first in the country to have two collection points is “an even bigger tick for Cowes”.

The pharmacy’s expansion has the full support of Cowes Town Council as part of a wider push for health and wellbeing in the community.
