Residents from a Cowes care home have enjoyed a visit to Independent Arts in Newport to view a vibrant exhibition featuring artwork created by care homes from across the Isle of Wight.

Residents from Old Charlton House worked with local artist Debbie Way to create fish and wire faces.

The exhibition, running at the Creative Hub on High Street from 17 November 2025 to 21 January 2026, showcases a wide range of creative work developed through Workshops for Wellbeing with Independent Arts practitioners Debbie Way, Lou Elliott, and Kirstie Hayler.

Visitors can see collages, wire portraits, printing with natural and recycled materials, weaving, drawing, and clay pieces.

The sessions were described as fun and full of laughter, with residents and their families joining in to make the experience accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Brenda, a resident, said:

“It was a lovely morning, and I enjoyed looking at all the things. The pond was my favourite; I wanted to bring it back with me.”
Annie, another resident, added: “What a wonderful time we had looking at the artwork, everyone is so talented.”

Activities Coordinator Debbie Webb said:

“We had a wonderful morning admiring our work and those of others.
"It is a very inspirational display and has given us lots of ideas for the future. If you get the chance to visit, I recommend it.”

Nicola Ward from Independent Arts added:

“It was a real pleasure to welcome talented artists from Old Charlton House to the Creative Hub.
"The exhibition showcases the work of residents and service users from 12 care, residential, and supported living homes across the Island.
"Creative activity supports wellbeing, expression, and confidence, especially for those with complex health needs.
"We are delighted to bring this outstanding collection to the public to enjoy.”

The exhibition remains open to visitors until 21 January, offering the public a chance to see the inspiring work of Isle of Wight care home residents.
