A Reform UK councillor has stepped down from the Isle of Wight Council, just days after criticism over missed meetings.

Mr Maclean, who represented the party locally, has resigned his seat, prompting a by-election expected to cost around £27,000.

In a statement, Island Labour said the situation highlights the need for councillors who are “committed, local, and ready to serve”.

The group also criticised Reform, claiming the party had put forward candidates “not ready for the role”, leaving communities without proper representation and residents picking up the bill.

The by-election will now be scheduled to fill the vacant seat.
