An update has been issued following a fire at a cottage in Havenstreet earlier this week.
Crews from Cowes, Newport, Ryde, Shanklin and Ventnor were called to a significant fire in a semi-detached cottage on Combley Road, near Havenstreet at 10:45pm on Wednesday (June 11).
The residents of the property were evacuated and in the care of the ambulance service.
Firefighters used hose reel jets to bring the fire under control, which had taken hold on both the ground and first floors of the building.
The property has sadly sustained significant damage, with firefighters remaining on scene for some time, to dampen down hotspots.
We provided support to the occupants of the neighbouring property, which didn’t sustain any significant damage thanks to swift action by our crews.
Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to prevent the fire spreading between the two properties.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
