Plans to convert a former milking parlour into business space near Blackgang have been met with opposition from local councillors.

The proposal, submitted by Fred Colson, would see a disused dairy building transformed into a small office for a rural business.

Planning documents state the building is no longer suitable for modern agricultural use, with larger facilities now typically required for contemporary farming equipment.

The applicant argues the development would be in keeping with existing residential and rural uses in the area, and says the building is not considered suitable for tourism purposes.

However, Chale Parish Council has objected to the plans, raising concerns about how the building could ultimately be used.

A spokesperson for the parish council said the size and layout of the proposed development suggest it could be used for purposes beyond a small office.

The Isle of Wight Council is currently consulting on the application, with the consultation period running until March 27. A decision is expected on April 20.
