Community Leader Sought To Oversee £19.5m Ryde Regeneration

A community leader is being sought to help oversee up to £19.5million of investment in Ryde over the next decade.

Ryde Neighbourhood Board is looking for a new Independent Chair to guide the delivery of the town’s 10-year vision through the Government’s Pride in Place programme.

Ryde is one of 244 communities across the UK selected to receive funding aimed at creating stronger communities, improving local areas and giving residents a greater say in their town’s future.

The programme is being led by Ryde Neighbourhood Board, working alongside the Isle of Wight Council, East Wight MP Joe Robertson, Ryde Town Council, residents, businesses and community organisations.

The voluntary Chair will provide strategic leadership to the board, act as an ambassador for the town and help ensure the programme remains driven by local priorities.

Joe Robertson MP said: “The Pride in Place programme offers an exciting opportunity to accelerate progress and deliver tangible improvements that will touch the everyday lives of residents in the town.

“We are looking for an exceptional individual who can provide strategic leadership to the Board and ensure the programme continues to be community-led, driven by local priorities and delivers lasting benefit for the town.”

Those interested in the position must have a strong connection to Ryde through living or working in the town or playing a prominent role in the community.

Applicants cannot hold elected political office and should have leadership experience, the ability to think strategically and the skills to bring people together and build consensus.

The position is expected to require a minimum commitment of around three days each month over an initial three-year term, with the opportunity to apply for a second term.

Applicants are being asked to submit a supporting statement of no more than 500 words explaining their interest in the role, connection to Ryde and the skills and experience they would bring. A CV can also be included.

Applications close at midnight on 30th September, with shortlisted candidates invited to an informal meeting with existing board members before an interview with a panel including the MP, Police and Crime Commissioner and senior Isle of Wight Council officers.

The successful candidate is expected to take up the role in January 2027.
