Firefighters Called To Undergrowth Blaze Near Ventnor School

Fire crews were called to Ventnor yesterday after a fire broke out in vegetation close to a school.
The incident happened near the Island Free School car park, off St Margaret’s Glade, shortly before midday.
The alarm was raised by a worker in the area who noticed signs of the fire and contacted the emergency services.
One person attempted to control the flames with a hose before firefighters arrived, but the blaze had begun to spread.
Appliances from Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown attended, alongside a water carrier.
Around 20 square metres of vegetation was affected.
Crews brought the fire under control before using two hose reel jets to thoroughly dampen the ground and prevent it from reigniting.
No injuries have been reported and the fire was prevented from reaching nearby property.
