A rare classic car has been destroyed by fire after bursting into flames on the main road through Brading this morning (Wednesday).
Firefighters were called to New Road, between Ryde and Sandown, at around 10:00, with a crew from Ryde Fire Station attending the incident.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control and extinguish the flames.
The vehicle involved was a 41-year-old Talbot Matra, which caught fire at the rear while travelling towards Ryde.
The fire has now been extinguished, although crews remain at the scene damping down the remains of the vehicle.
Police temporarily closed New Road in both directions, with Southern Vectis services on routes 2 and 3 diverted via St Helens.
Traffic is continuing to divert through Brading via The Mall while the road closure remains in place.
