Celtic FC Women player Maria McAneny has officially been recognised by Guinness World Records after scoring the fastest goal in women’s football history.
The record-breaking midfielder was presented with her certificate on Wednesday (26 March) at Celtic’s Barrowfield training ground.
McAneny set the record during a Scottish Women’s Premier League clash against Hibernian Women in December 2025, finding the net just 4.10 seconds after kick-off with an incredible strike from inside her own half.
Her effort, from more than 50 yards out, stunned spectators and quickly made headlines around the world.
Speaking after receiving the award, McAneny said the goal came completely out of the blue.
She explained it was a “spur-of-the-moment” decision, adding that she had mentioned to a teammate she might go for it straight from kick-off – and was delighted when it paid off.
Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records, was on hand to present the certificate marking the achievement.
The goal has now secured McAneny a place in the record books, cementing her moment of brilliance as one of the most remarkable in the history of the women’s game.
