Islanders looking to make a difference in their community are being encouraged to attend this year’s Care and Health Careers Festival at Lord Louis Library, Newport.

The event, organised by the Isle of Wight Council, takes place on Wednesday 17 September and will showcase a wide range of career opportunities in the health and care sectors.

Visitors will be able to meet employers including the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, Mountbatten Hospice, and independent care providers, as well as council teams from adult social care and children’s services.

New additions for 2024 include the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and the Isle of Wight Youth Trust, who will be sharing information on jobs, volunteering, and the benefits of working in emergency and youth services.

Katy Harwood, recruitment team leader at the council, said:

“We need more people to join the Island’s care and health workforce, supporting residents when they need it most.
"This event is a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to meet employers, hear from those working on the frontline, and see just how rewarding these careers can be.”

Support services such as Isle of Wight College, Adult Learning, the council’s apprenticeship team and JobCentre Plus will also be there to give advice on training, qualifications and job applications.

The festival runs from 10am to 2pm, and attendees are encouraged to bring their CVs — with some employers offering on-the-day interviews for live vacancies.

More details, including the full list of exhibitors, can be found on the Isle of Wight Council website.
