Car Overturns And Blocks Whitwell High Street After Collision

A car overturned and blocked the main road through Whitwell on Saturday evening following a collision with a parked vehicle outside the White Horse Inn.

The incident happened shortly after 17:00 on High Street, as a gold Suzuki Jimny was travelling towards Ventnor.

The vehicle is understood to have collided with a parked car before overturning onto its side in the middle of the road.

Emergency services attended the scene, including Police, paramedics and crews from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.

Firefighters were later stood down as the situation was not as serious as first feared.

The driver of the Suzuki, believed to be a man, was treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to St Mary’s Hospital.

It is understood the casualty escaped serious injury.

High Street was closed between Kemming Road and Bannock Road while officers diverted traffic and recovery arrangements were put in place.

Motorists faced disruption in the area into the early evening while the overturned vehicle was recovered.
