A single-vehicle crash has left a car on its roof on Sandown Road (A3055) this afternoon (Thursday), causing heavy delays between Sandown and Shanklin.

Emergency services, including police, fire crews and paramedics, are on the scene following the collision.

The car, a Suzuki Ignis, reportedly hit a wall and railing before coming to rest upside down.

The male driver was helped from the vehicle and is receiving treatment in an ambulance.

Fire crews from Sandown, Shanklin, Newport and Ryde were initially sent to the incident, but most units were stood down shortly after arriving.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service also dispatched an Operational Commander and a Critical Care Paramedic to support the response.

Sandown Road remains closed at the junction with Newport Road while emergency services deal with the scene.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed they were called to the collision at around 12:06pm. No serious injuries have been reported.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and find alternative routes where possible.
