A team of racing camels are set to cross the Solent by ferry next month as they head to the Royal Isle of Wight County Show.
The camels, from Joseph’s Amazing Camels, will travel to the Island on a Wightlink service before appearing at the County Showground in Northwood on July 11 and 12.
They will be one of the headline attractions at the two-day event, racing in the arena in front of thousands of visitors.
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show celebrates the Island’s rural heritage and is one of its most popular annual events.
Wightlink has joined NFU Mutual Isle of Wight in sponsoring the camel attraction, which is being provided by the Warwickshire-based company, a leading UK supplier of camels for film, television and events.
Other attractions this year include giant tortoises, the Shetland Pony Grand National, a rodeo bull ride, vintage tractors, a fun dog show, livestock classes, a funfair, food market and craft stalls.
Show chairman Graham Biss said:
"The show goes from strength to strength, and we are so excited to welcome Joseph's Amazing Camels this year."
NFU Mutual senior agent John Heather added:
"We're proud to sponsor the camels this year and help bring an exciting and unique attraction for visitors to enjoy."
Wightlink partnerships marketing manager Sam Woodman said:
"The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is a pillar of the Island's social calendar and we're delighted to support it."
A spokesperson for Joseph’s Amazing Camels said the animals “rarely get to travel overseas” and are expected to enjoy the trip to the Island.
