It was a memorable weekend for Vectis RFC’s youth teams, with success on the pitch, strong performances at festivals and several former players representing Hampshire at county level.
The club’s Under 12 boys lifted the Shield at the Hampshire County Tournament in Havant.
After a mixed start in the group stages, the team fought back to reach the knockout rounds before beating Portsmouth/Tottonians in the semi-final.
In a tense final against Fordingbridge, the scores were level as the clock ran down before Harry Gregg crossed for the winning try in the final play of the match.
Elsewhere, Vectis’ Under 12 girls joined forces with Havant at a Hampshire Festival and enjoyed a strong run of results, recording three wins and a draw during the event.
The club’s Under 10s also impressed during a development festival at Fawley RFC, with coaches praising the squad’s teamwork, effort and sportsmanship.
Back on the Island, Vectis Under 9s marked Mother’s Day by presenting daffodils to their mums, nans and carers after training, in a show of appreciation for their support throughout the season.
There was also pride for the club as several former Vectis youth players were selected to represent Hampshire Under 20s, highlighting the success of the club’s development pathway.
