Road closures are planned at Yarmouth Bridge and Medina Way Bridge next month as Island Roads carries out maintenance and preparatory investigations.

At Yarmouth Bridge, work is scheduled for November 2 and 3, with November 4 held as a contingency in case of bad weather or unexpected problems.

Engineers will replace landing pads that transfer the load between the bridge's moving section and its supports, alongside repairs to the parapet and protective steel strip between the bridge deck and road.

The swing bridge will need to remain open during the work, preventing vehicles and pedestrians from crossing between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

The signed diversion for vehicles will run via Thorley Road, Wilmingham Lane, Middle Road (Newport Road), Afton Road, Hooke Hill, Copse Lane and Hallett's Shute.

Meanwhile, ground investigations at Medina Way Bridge will take place ahead of a major bearing replacement scheme, now rescheduled for September next year.

The northbound carriageway will close overnight between 7.30pm and 6am on November 2 and 3.

The southbound carriageway will then shut during the same hours on November 4 and 5.

Southbound traffic will be diverted via Dodnor Lane, Manners View and Riverway through the industrial estate.

The northbound diversion will run via Lidl Roundabout, Hunnycross Way and Hunnyhill.

Island Roads said the work had been scheduled for November to minimise disruption, with overnight shifts planned at Medina Way and shorter working periods at Yarmouth Bridge.

The company has thanked residents and businesses for their understanding while the essential work is carried out.
