Isle of Wight Weather Warning Extended Ahead Of Potential Storm

A weather warning for the Isle of Wight has been extended ahead of potentially stormy conditions on Friday, with winds of more than 70mph possible if the storm takes a more northerly path.
IW Met Service has updated its yellow warning for Friday (23 October), extending the period
in force by four hours. It will now run from 01:00 until 20:00.
Gusts of up to 60mph are currently forecast, but winds could exceed 70mph if Storm Austen tracks further north than expected.
Forecasters say there remains considerable uncertainty over the storm's path, with the system potentially passing just south of the Island or moving directly across the area.
The current outlook suggests the strongest winds could remain south of the Isle of Wight if the storm travels through the English Channel or close to the south coast.
However, a more northerly track could bring the Island into the worst of the weather, while a more southerly path could mean the warning is no longer needed.
Disruption to travel is possible, particularly on exposed coastal routes where large waves and sea spray could create hazardous conditions.
Wightlink has already warned of potential disruption to its FastCat passenger service and car ferry routes from Fishbourne and Yarmouth.
Residents are being advised to secure loose items outdoors, allow extra time for journeys and take care near exposed coastlines.
