The Bay Church of England School is celebrating a highly positive inspection report which praises the school for living out its Christian values and creating an environment where pupils and staff can flourish.
The all-through school, catering for children aged four to 16, was inspected as part of the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) at both its primary and secondary sites on 18 and 19 November.
Inspectors highlighted the school’s clear and ambitious Christian vision, saying it inspires leaders and governors to lead with determination and to drive continual improvement.
Strong partnerships with local churches, the Diocese and national programmes were also praised, with the vision described as a “living reality” across the school.
The report identified a number of key strengths, including inspirational leadership, a strong Religious Education curriculum and a clear focus on wellbeing and mental health.
Inspectors said pupils and staff feel well supported, helping everyone to thrive.
Religious Education was described as thoughtful and inspiring, with pupils recognising its importance in preparing them for life in a diverse society.
The school’s inclusive curriculum was also praised for effectively meeting the needs of pupils with special educational needs and more vulnerable learners.
Pupil leadership and responsibility were highlighted as strengths, with students encouraged to take on roles that allow them to make positive contributions to their school and wider community.
Collective worship was described as a valued part of school life, supporting reflection and spiritual development for pupils of all faiths and none.
Inspectors also noted the school’s strong pastoral support, including trained staff acting as “listening ears”, school pastors for older pupils and wide-ranging support for families.
One parent told inspectors they had been “overwhelmed by leaders’ kindness and generosity”.
While areas for further development were identified, including continuing to develop collective worship in Key Stages 3 and 4, inspectors said The Bay CE School is a thriving community where both pupils and adults are supported to flourish.
Executive Headteacher Duncan Mills said he was delighted the report recognised the strength of the school’s vision, while Chair of the Governing Board Peter Higgin described the outcome as a well-deserved validation of the hard work of staff, pupils and the wider school community.
