Apollo Theatre Players Receive King's Award For Voluntary Service

The Apollo Theatre Players have been presented with the King's Award for Voluntary Service – the highest honour given to volunteer groups across the UK.

The award recognises the Newport-based group's work in preserving and running its amateur theatre for the benefit of the community.

The Players say the accolade is the most significant achievement in their 53-year history and highlights the dedication of the volunteers who keep the theatre running.

The award citation praised the organisation's strong membership, its commitment to maintaining and preserving the historic listed building through voluntary effort, and its inclusive contribution to Island culture and community life.

As part of the celebrations, two members were invited to attend a King's Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The official presentation took place on 4 June, when the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight visited the theatre to present the award in person.

The Apollo Theatre Players were one of three Island organisations to receive the honour this year and were the only member of the Little Theatre Guild to be recognised.

A commemorative crystal award featuring the King's Award for Voluntary Service logo will soon be displayed in the theatre foyer.
