Organisers have this morning (Friday) made the decision to cancel this weekend's annual West Wight Sports & Community Centre Cross Solent Swim.
The decision is based on the wind forecast for the weekend.
Sadly, there are no more suitable tidal conditions on any weekends for the rest of the summer, with organisers looking at possible weekdays which would be a similar early morning start.
Details will be circulated to swimmers as soon as confirmation of sufficient safety cover is in place.
The swim raises almost £30,000 each year for the charity that runs West Wight Sports & Community Centre.
Clare Griffin, Event organiser, said:
“We are heartbroken to have had to cancel this years swim due to the weather.
"Not only is this an incredibly inspiring event, it also raises much needed funds for our Centre.
"We are so devasted for the 63 swimmers who have been training so hard.
"However, we are looking at the possibility of an alternative mid-week event as long as we can make this viable and safe.”
