Air Ambulance Team Called To Ryde As Patient Taken To Mainland Hospital

Flying medics from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance were called to Ryde late on Sunday night, with a patient subsequently taken directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

The specialist helicopter landed at Simeon Street Recreation Ground, close to the Esplanade, at around 11.25pm after being tasked to support Isle of Wight Ambulance Service crews dealing with a seriously unwell man.

The charity's aircraft had been requested shortly after 11pm and was quickly airborne from its base at Southampton Airport, making the short journey across the Solent in around 10 minutes.

After touching down, the helicopter crew – comprising a pilot and three specialist medics – joined paramedics on Rink Road, where the patient was receiving treatment inside an ambulance.

Following an on-scene assessment by the enhanced care team, it was decided that the man would be transferred directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for further treatment.
