The Isle of Wight Council says major progress has been made in tackling overdue food hygiene inspections — but admits some new businesses are still waiting too long for checks.

A restaurant in Ryde has been given a food hygiene rating of just 1 out of 5 following an inspection by the Isle of Wight Council.

A councillor has raised concerns after it emerged that a quarter of food premises due for inspection on the Isle of Wight were not visited last year.

It's good news for a host of Island eateries receiving full five-star hygiene ratings, while two others need major improvement.
