Witness Appeal After Cyclist Injured In Lake Crash

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after colliding with a car in Lake.

The incident happened on Newport Road at 6.04pm last night (Monday).

As a result of the collision, the cyclist sustained injuries and was taken to St Mary's Hospital.

Posting on Facebook, Isle of Wight Police said:

"The driver of the involved vehicle did not stop sufficiently at the scene in order to exchange details or await the arrival of emergency services.

"The driver of the involved vehicle has been described as a white male, approximately 60 years of age with white tied back hair, white beard and scruffy appearance. The involved vehicle could potentially be a Suzuki Vitara but this is not confirmed.

"As can be seen from the photos below the bicycle being ridden was distinctive and the damage to the cycle helmet is obvious.

"I am appealing for two things, firstly, I would encourage the driver of the involved vehicle to contact me via 101.

"Secondly, I am appealing for any further witnesses to come forward who may have witnessed the collision and can provide any further information as to the identity of the involved vehicle and driver."
