War Criminal 'Butcher Of Bosnia' Moved To HMP Isle Of Wight

War criminal the 'Butcher of Bosnia' is reportedly being held at the Isle of Wight's prison, following a 'top secret' flight from Europe.

According the the Daily Mail, Radovan Karadžić, who is serving a life sentence for war crimes and genocide, was flown from a maximum security prison in the Netherlands on Wednesday (27).

It's believed the Bosnian Serb leader has since been transferred to HMP Isle of Wight.

In 2016, he was convicted of a string of atrocities, including the massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica.

The Daily Mail reports there were fears of revenge attacks in a 'mainstream prison', and the Island's jail has been chosen for its 'reduced' risk.

It was agreed Karadžić would be moved to the UK earlier this month (May). At the time, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said:

"Radovan Karadžić is one of the few people to have been found guilty of genocide. He was responsible for the massacre of men, women and children at the Srebrenica genocide and helped prosecute the siege of Sarajevo with its remorseless attacks on civilians.

"We should take pride in the fact that, from UK support to secure his arrest, to the prison cell he now faces, Britain has supported the 30 year pursuit of justice for these heinous crimes."

Karadžić is not the first high profile criminal to be placed at the Island's prison.

The Kray twins, Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, and Moors Murderer Ian Brady were all held there for a time.
