Walk The Wight Returns For 2021 - Registrations Now Open

Mountbatten has announced that it plans to hold a physical Walk the Wight for 2021 - but fans of the virtual walk won't be disappointed either.

Registrations for the 2021 walk are now open, with those wanting to take part urged to sign up.

Due to coronavirus restrictions and the national lockdown that was in place during May, Walk The Wight for 2020 was moved online - with those wishing to fundraise for Mountbatten taking to their stairs, gardens, and using their daily exercise periods to rack up the miles.

Around 2,500 people took part, raising a total of £212,000, with the money raised helping to support Islanders living with death, dying and bereavement.

The Virtual Walk will also take place this year for those who would prefer to take their time to clock up the distance and will be available between April and May.

Mountbatten CEO, Nigel Hartley, said:

“We will do everything we possibly can to bring back the Walk the Wight we know and love next year.

“It is our flagship event and hopefully, if government guidelines allow, we can enjoy getting walkers together again.

“That said, our Walk the Wight Your Way was an incredible success this year and it enabled more people to get involved, so we are delighted to bring this back too.”

The main walk on 9 May starts at Bembridge and ends at The Needles, though walkers can choose to cover half the distance, either from the start or from the midway point at Carisbrooke.

The eight-mile Flat Walk from Sandown to Newport is also available for people of all ages and abilities.

Walk the Wight Your Way will be available throughout April and May for people to complete their miles in any way it suits them.
